As Principal of the North West College of Homoeopathy in Manchester, England, I serve a wide region of the United Kingdom from Birmingham northwards, including Scotland and North Wales We are always conscious of our international friends in homoeopathy, though often very busy with our own – in global terms – very small patch. Happily, our cities now are international, and we can teach, and learn with and from, people with family links to the Indian subcontinent and almost every other part of the world.
I am the International Course Coordinator UK for the online courses with Sukul Institute of Homeopathic Research in Kolkata, It is a privilege to work alongside the Sukul Insititute; their energy, research experience, clinical insights and local wisdom are a good match for our quality assured adult education and professional training experience, refined over 30+ years.
In developing this course, our joint intent was to focus on clinical quality; something entirely within our control. NWCH is a UK leader in the application of educational and quality standards to clinical experience. The work we do online is built on externally validated work in England.
As Principal of the College, my job is to create processes which allow the real purpose of the College to flourish – to develop confident, competent, empathic and reflective professionals with a clear intent to heal people; to build and maintain a community where everybody strives and is encouraged; and, to manage the business of the formal organisation.
In our courses with the Sukul Institute, I will carry the same intentions, and be working hard to deliver these practically in an online setting.
I teach Philosophy and Repertory. I get excited about Hahnemann, the founder of homoeopathy, and his ideas. The practical application of what he has to say is often overlooked, yet his advice about dosage and the treatment of bipolar disease (alternating mental states) is incredibly helpful daily in practice. My teaching is influenced by previous experience of educating adults - training community organisations of all descriptions, and people both with master’s degrees and without formal qualifications.
I relax by walking the West Pennine moors where I live.

I am a graduate in Zoology and completed Masters on the same subject from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, India, a central University. Thereafter, I started working as a PhD student in Visva-Bharati University with the running title “Effect of some potentized drugs on the catalepsy and righting reflex of mice” and working with homeopathic dilutions and to see their effects in animal models. Working with homeopathic dilutions is always interesting and I got a new flavor in my life. I then completed the degree course in homeopathy.
I remember my first publication in 1999, “Reduction of alcohol induced sleep time in albino mice by potentized Nux vomica prepared with 90% ethanol” published in the then British Homeopathic Journal, now named as “Homeopathy”.
I then joined as a Research Associate under DSA (UGC) Programme in the Department of Zoology, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, India and worked with fish model giving Cantharis mother tincture peritoneal injections to the cat fish and to see the changes in gonadotropins.
I started my career with teaching and joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Zoology, Bolpur College, in West Bengal, India, a very old and famous college in Bolpur. After teaching here for couple of years, somehow the “force” of homeopathy dragged me to enter into this field and I simply resigned from my Lectureship in Bolpur College. It was a very well discussed topic amongst my colleague then!
I started practicing homeopathy thereafter and later I also worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy, NCC Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital in Howrah, West Bengal, India. Then I became the Secretary and later also Director of Sukul Institute of Homeopathic Research. I am the Editor of Clinical and Experimental Homeopathy.
I am honored to serve as an International Faculty for the International Diploma in Homeopathy, offered jointly by the North West College of Homoeopathy in Manchester, England and Sukul Institute of Homeopathic Research, Kolkata. The collaboration between the North West College of Homoeopathy, Manchester, England and the Sukul Institute of Homeopathic Research, Kolkata, would open up a new dimension and opportunities in India, as far as the homeopathy education is concerned.
I have published 27 original research papers in National and International peer reviewed journals and also Co-authored a book "High Dilution Effects: Physical and Biological basis” published by Kluwer Academic Publishers, The Netherlands. 2004. This book was so popular that it translated in Italian language “Farmacologia dellealte diluizioni: Studi Biochimici E Fisici Sul Medicinale Omeopatico” published by Salus Infirmorum in 2005.
I was selected in 3 international workshops organized by National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) and National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in Bangalore, India; International School of Biocybernetics in Naples, Italy; Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India and International Mistletoe Meeting on Integrated Oncology organized by Helixor, Germany at Rosenfeld, Germany.
I have lectured and promoted homeopathy in many countries like Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, UK, Thailand, Bangladesh and Bhutan.
I am glad to serve as the International Faculty for the International Diploma in Homeopathy, an online course jointly presented by North West College of Homoeopathy in Manchester, England and Sukul Institute of Homeopathic Research in Kolkata, India.
I am also the Clinical Director of our College here in Manchester.
My background is in teaching and I really enjoy meeting and sharing knowledge with others.
I am a graduate of NWCH and after years of clinical experience, I have led student clinics for ten years, involving students in decision-making about everything from everyday illness to chronic degenerative disease. The clinic is where we see the real live presentation of the patient and is an invaluable training for homoeopathic learning. I also give presentations and talks, and run courses for the public.
As well as managing the student clinical experience, I am a College supervisor myself and enjoy working with students individually to develop their full potential.
The best thing about homoeopathic education for me is working with groups of people whose thirst for knowledge is infectious. This is where we can explore the exciting and often surprising world of Homoeopathy together.
My main interest lies with Materia Medica. I find remedies and their sources fascinating. I have been involved both as a prover and supervisor of two provings and found it a fascinating process.
I love my garden.
Coming to a College teaching weekend or clinic is like coming home. I look forward to our joint course with Sukul Institute as a way of spreading that feeling even further.
